Doing work around play scripts, researching and presenting information, performing plays, looking at poetry, continuing our work on spellings, handwriting, punctuation and grammar. They will be doing a weekly comprehension. We still have a big focus on reading where the children will be reading for 30 minutes a day.

Please can you make sure your child is reading regularly, their weekly homework should be handed in on a Monday and if they do their optional homework that should be handed in on a Monday as well. They need to wear their blue tracksuits on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Making New Materials

Welcome back after Christmas, we hope you have had a good one and a Happy New Year to you all. We have started the new half term well with our new topic Making New Materials. The children have enjoyed experimenting with different materials and seeing what changes can be made. They have been learning to record their results in different ways e.g. writing up an experiment using scientific vocabulary, making graphs and charts to record their results etc.

In maths the children are learning how to read calendars and time tables. They have been learning about Pi and how to find the area of different shapes including circles, they are adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing positive and negative numbers. They are converting fractions to decimals and vice versa using division. They are learning about factors and proper factors and are learning divisibility tests so they can find whether larger numbers are divisible by a number given.

In Literacy the children will be writing up results from their experiments and will be writing instructions. They will be doing a weekly comprehension mainly around the novel The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. We will be continuing work on spellings, punctuation and grammar. We are having a big drive on making sure the children are presenting their work neatly and are using their best handwriting at all times.

Please make sure your child does their weekly homework of reading, RM maths and spellings. They are also given an optional homework. Homework should be handed in on a Monday, any child that does not do their weekly homework three times in a row will have a detention.

Well done to those children who are reading regularly we are really pleased with those who are moving up in the reading scheme.

Please remember your child needs to wear blue tracksuits on a Monday and a Wednesday.

Many thanks Mrs Wooler

Friday 25th November

Thank you to everyone who provided boxes for our 3D Designers Topic. You can see the results below of the buildings they made.

Monday 21st November

As you have probably heard we have started our new topic, 3D Designers. This is an ICT based topic and we are looking at famous buildings. On Friday we are going to make junk models of famous buildings. Please can you bring any boxes, bottles tubes etc by Friday. Please remember no glass. Please can all items be cleaned if necessary before bringing them in. Thank you.

Please don't forget the Space party on Wednesday 9th November. Children can come dressed as anything to do with space or the 1960s. Please make sure they wear clothes they can play out in. No healed shoes. They can bring food or drink for everyone to share.

Welcome Back

Welcome back after the half term holiday. I hope you have all had a really good holiday and have rested. The children had a very successful half term previously and we are now ready to continue our learning.

In IPC the children will be completing their Space topic which will end with a 1960's/Moon Landing Party (date to be confirmed), remember your child can dress up in anything to do with the 1960s or Space. After this topic we will be starting a new topic called 3D Designers, this is an ICT based topic where we will be using the computers to design houses/ buildings, we will be using Sketch Up and Scratch to help with this topic.

In Numeracy the children will be learning to state the value of each digit in numbers with up to three places, they will state the value of pairs and trios of digits in numbers with up to three decimal places. They will write vertical additions and subtractions accurately, lining up the decimal points. They will calculate sums and differences of numbers with up to three decimal places and with tricky columns. They will calculate a product with three factors. They will recognise explicit factors for Maths stories using the product of three numbers, e.g. in 2 x 3 x 4, 2,3, and 4 are explicit factors. They will recognise the implicit factors for Maths Stories using the product of three numbers, e.g. in 2 x 3 x 4, 6, 8 and 12 are implicit factors. They will use the symbols less than and more than e.g. What is a value for n so that 7 is less than n.They will solve word problems using 'Think About the Word Problem' steps, they will identify Type 1 and Type 2 division questions. They will use cards to act out algebraic methods. In Geometry they will draw line segments and follow instructions for drawing and labelling intersecting arcs.

Well done to those children who have been doing their homework.  Please remember your children need to learn their weekly spellings which are given out on a Monday on a sheet (if your child mislays their sheet the spellings can be found on this website), the children are tested on the following Tuesday. They should also be doing their RM easi maths. Reading has become a big focus in our school, the children should be bringing their reading books home every night and bringing it back to school every morning. Children are reading for 30 minutes every day in class and this needs to be supported at home. They are also given optional homework to do with the topic. This will also be given on a sheet but if it is mislayed for any reason you can find it on this website. Your child will only need to wear blue tracksuits on a Wednesday this half term this is because they will be doing food/sewing and music on a Monday.

Spellings 10th October 2016

Welcome Back

We hope you had a great summer holiday. The children have come back refreshed and ready to learn.

Our topics for this half term are Brainwave and Space Explorers. We are really looking forward to working on these exciting topics. In maths the children are learning to add and take away larger numbers, with multi-step problems. They are also finding missing numbers in a puzzle, we are leaning about different measurements and angles, we are continuing to learn different reasoning strategies. Please make sure your child is secure with all their times tables up to 12 x 12 and that they are regularly practicing their Numeracy Passports. In music we are learning the Rock Song Don't Stop Believing. RE we are learning about Christianity and Islam. We are learning about signs and symbols. In Literacy we will be learning to make presentations, learn about traditional stories, fables and myths. We will also be doing instructional writing. In PE we are learning golf-weather permitting! Blue tracksuits are needed on a Monday and Wednesday. Our PSHCE topic is New beginnings.

If  you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.
